Every day, we wake up and go to a job that we love. We get to teach the future leaders of the world! It’s a pretty great gig if you ask us. Teaching is often a thankless job. We work long hours for little pay and are constantly being asked to do more with less. So why do we do it? We keep coming back day after day, year after year. For many of us, it’s because we have a genuine passion for being elementary teachers. Here are just a few of the reasons why we love teaching.
Elementary Teachers Make a Difference
The most rewarding part of our job is watching our students grow and change throughout the year. Every day, we see our students learn and grow in so many ways. Elementary teachers get to watch students discover new things about themselves and the world around them. Undeniably there’s nothing more rewarding than watching a student light up with understanding when they finally “get it.” Furthermore, it’s even more gratifying when we see a student who was struggling at the beginning of the year blossom into a confident learner by the end of the year. Witnessing these kinds of transformations on a daily basis is one of the biggest reasons why we became teachers– and why I continue to teach. Seeing our students succeed is what motivates us to keep doing what we do.
We Have the Best Students in the World
Our students are amazing! They come to school every day eager to learn. Children make us laugh with their innocence and sincerity. They never fail to amaze us with their creativity and imagination. As elementary teachers, we have the privilege of getting to know not only our students but also their families. Over the years, we develop relationships with kids that extend far beyond the classroom. We’re there for students during some of the most challenging times in their young lives. Knowing that we make a positive difference in the lives of our students – both inside and outside of school – is one of the things that keeps us coming back day after day. To be sure, the students truly are the best part of our job.
We Have the Best Colleagues in the World
We love teaching and being a part of a community. Education can be a demanding profession, so it’s important to have a strong support system. We are lucky enough to work with some of the most caring and talented people in the world. Our colleagues are like family to us, and we know that we can always count on them for anything we need. That community can be at school or online with other teachers like me! We share what we know and are always ready to help out! Read 5 Tips for Teachers with English Language Learners here.
These are just a few of the reasons why we are passionate about educating kids. We enjoy having the opportunity to make a difference and at the same time, elementary teachers have the unique opportunity to shape young minds and watch students grow into responsible, kind, global citizens. Furthermore, we make a difference in the world – one student at a time. Although it’s not always easy, teaching is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding jobs out there. So, next time you’re feeling down about your job, remember why you got into education in the first place. Chances are, it has everything to do with your love for children and your desire to make a difference in their lives – and that’s something you should be proud of!
Finally, I bet you feel as I do, incredibly lucky to have found a career that is so rewarding, challenging, and fun!
